The Classic Kangol Bermuda Bucket

The Kangol Bermuda Casual Bucket     Hip-hop and headwear have a long and close relationship. Raps  weren’t the only thing Rappers turned to make statements and express themselves  , Headwear became a vital piece in Hip hop and fashion in the 80’s  . Despite hip hop and Kangol almost being mutually inclusive , the history of the brand may not be as American as you think . Jakob Henryk Spreiregen, a Polish-born Jewish immigrant who came to England in 1915, founded the company in the 1920s and began making hats in London. It didn’t adopt the name Kangol until 1930, when Spreiregen invented it by combining the letters K for “knitting,” ANG for “Angora” (a kind of wool), and OL for “wool.” Kangol became popular in the United Kingdom during and after WWII. During the war, Kangol became the primary supplier of berets to the British Army, with annual output exceeding one million caps. Kangol recruited designers Pierre Cardin and Mary Quant to its list in the 1960s, and they began making hats for celebrities like the Beatles and the late Princess Diana. This type of celebrity exposure sparked the interest of the American market, and people began enquiring where they might get a Kangol hat. This is when the brand began utilizing the distinctive Kangaroo emblem, This is when the brand began utilizing the distinctive Kangaroo emblem, (contrary to popular belief, no Kangol hat has ever originated in Australia.) Thanks to the grand exposure from British icons , Kangol quickly saw a significant spike in US Sales during the 80’s,  but it was only when the one and only LL cool Jay was seen wearing the famous Kangol Bermuda Casual Bucket did the brand get catapulted into the hip hop scene . This was a game changer for both Kangol and Hip Hop Culture , Consumers raced to get their hands on the hat worn by LL Cool J  and the so the kangol phenomena began and is even still present today           Countless rappers , including Run-DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Slick Rick, and Missy Elliott, to mention a few, followed suit . The obsession also transcended the hip hop music scene and  made its way into the world of  Hollywood and Film,  Nino Brown, the renowned character played by Wesley Snipes in New Jack City, can be seen wearing numerous Kangol hats throughout the film. Women’s Air Jordan 11 Low ‘Pure Violet’

The Jordan 11 The history The anticipation for Michael Jordan’s return had reached a feverish pitch amongst Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan fans. He ended his one-year tenure in Minor League Baseball with a simple yet legendary statement  that said, “I’m back.” Michael returned to top form after a year of his comeback and quickly clinched the Chicago Bulls’ next three-peat, scoring championship victories in 1996, 1997, and 1998. MJ wore the Air Jordan 11, notably the Concord colorway, throughout the 1995-1996 season, demonstrating his devotion to the sneaker and the colorway. The sneaker became a symbol of MJ’s comeback to NBA greatness, immortalizing a glorious era in the sport’s history. During MJ’s thankfully short lived baseball career, famed Nike footwear designer Tinker Hatfield created the Air Jordan 11. He preserved the designs in case MJ ended his retirement and returned to the NBA – he always wanted MJ to wear the Air Jordan 11 on court . Tinker proclaimed the Air Jordan 11 his favorite sneaker of all time, highlighting its flawless marriage of technology and design. Its ballistic mesh upper made it more durable than the usual sneaker, while the patent leather provided structural lockdown and needed lightness without stretching like traditional leather. The carbon fiber spring plate made the shoe lighter while still supporting Michael’s weight and providing propulsion to complement his aggressive games. Its lightness allowed him to soar about the court freely. It wasn’t simply the technology that distinguished the sneaker. Tinker wanted MJ to wear the Air Jordan 11 off the court, therefore it was created to be more formal than the Air Jordan 10. Its sleek lines, wavy patent leather, and basic form make it suitable for dressing up or down. This must be the reason why Michael Jordan considers the AJ 11 to be one of his favorite Air Jordan’s. Despite being a sneaker, the patent leather pops when paired with a suit and adds a beautiful formal element to the outfit. Dress it down with shorts and a t-shirt for a more casual and comfy appearance. When you consider the comfort of the full-length Air Max midsole, it’s easy to see why anyone would choose the Air Jordan 11 as their go-to sneaker. “Pure Violet” The New Women’s Air Jordan 11 Gives the Iconic Silhouette a fresh look by bringing in a softer and more subtle color pallet Dressed in a soft White and Pure Violet ensemble . The upper and tongue on this Pair is constructed out of the classic White mesh, while the overlays are made of the signature patent leather in none other but the lovely light lilac or ‘pure violet’ colorway. The design is completed with a white midsole above an ice transparent outsole. PUMA X BLACK FIVES

The Black Fives Era Before basket ball became the game we all know and love today , things were a lot different in 1891 when the sport first came into exitance . Teams were referred to as “fives” due to their 5 man starting line . Unfortunately at the time racial segregation was an unpalatable theme in basketball and American culture as a whole . “Colored quints,” “Negro cagers,” or “black fives” were terms used to describe and downplay teams that consisted solely of African Americans. Thankfully this didn’t stop African American Teams from falling in love with the game . Up until the racial integration of the National Basketball League in the 1940s and the National Basketball Association in 1950, the sport remained segregated until 1904, when basketball was first made available to African Americans on a large scale and organized basis. Between those two points, a time frame called as the “Black Fives Era” was marked by the emergence, success, and dominance of several all-Black teams . Generations before the N.B.A. was founded, African Americans were making waves in basketball. Black music, such as ragtime, jazz, and blues, became so loved  when the phonograph was invented in the early 1900s that a dance craze swept the nation. Dance halls and ballrooms replaced player pianos and sheet music in the parlor almost immediately The demeaning, humiliating minstrelsy of the past was replaced with positive and culturally affirming chances in the entertainment business. These Vibrant dance halls and ballrooms gave way to ready made basketball courts on off nights. featuring music by top Black musicians and dancing afterward until well past midnight. As a result, Black Fives Era basketball games went beyond the sport itself and became meaningful social events The Black Fives Foundation and PUMA present their second collection as part of their ongoing collaboration.  The goal of the Black Fives Foundation is to learn about, commemorate, and teach the pre-NBA history of African Americans in basketball.  This collection honors the Black Fives Era teams’ ability to transcend the communities where they first started and establish themselves in American cities and towns.  Teams would travel the nation playing rigorous schedules, adhering to rigid business models while navigating Jim Crow restrictions on everything from public transportation to restaurants to lodging, even before they arrived in tense, foreign, highly volatile arenas, armories, ballrooms, and gymnasiums far from home.  However, these teams frequently prevailed, made it out of town without incident, and received invitations to play again.
